Appointments:
Your appointment time is reserved specifically for you. Please make every effort to keep your scheduled appointment. For new clients, please arrive 10 minutes early to complete paperwork. For returning clients, please arrive punctually to allow for time to change and begin your session on schedule.
Late arrivals will result in a shortened session or rescheduling of the appointment. The therapist will perform the full session if possible. Sessions will not be shortened if for any reason the therapist is running behind schedule.
Arrivals more than 15 minutes early are not permitted. Many preparations are made to ensure that the client receives superior service, and early arrivals overlap with preparation time and other scheduled appointments. If the client arrives more than 15 minutes early, please wait in your vehicle until closer to the appointed time.
Cancellations and No-Shows:
If you are unable to keep your appointment for any reason, please give 12 hours’ notice by phone or 24 hours’ notice by email. In the case of a true emergency, less notice is acceptable. In the case of illness, please call or text by 9 a.m. on the day of your appointment. Failure to appear for your scheduled appointment without prior notice is called a No-Show.
Each client is permitted one No-Show, with the second No-Show resulting in a charge of $25, and each subsequent No-Show resulting in the full fee being charged. Late cancellations will be treated as No-Shows. Clients who frequently cancel may also be prohibited from scheduling more than 24 hours ahead. For cancellations by the therapist, due to emergency or illness, the therapist will give as much notice as possible. For a second cancellation by the therapist with less than 4 hours’ notice, the client’s service will be discounted $25 at their next appointment.
Certain health conditions preclude receiving a massage. If the client has fever, rash, acute injury, recent car accident, or believes themselves to be contagious, the client is encouraged to reschedule.
Scope of Practice:
Healing Elements exists for the purpose of positively affecting the health and wellbeing of individuals through manual therapy and related modalities. The therapist is not qualified to prescribe any treatment nor diagnose any condition. The therapist may treat certain conditions only under the supervision of a doctor. By law, the therapist is required to decline services and/or refer to the appropriate physician when the client’s health is believed to be at risk. As a licensed health professional, the therapist must strictly adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Florida Department of Health and the American Massage Therapy Association.
Intake Form & Informed Consent:
Each client will be required to complete an intake form which includes a medical history. The client is responsible for providing accurate and comprehensive medical information to the therapist to protect the client. At each appointment, any new changes in a client’s health should be disclosed to the therapist before the session begins. Massage therapy is not appropriate for certain medical conditions. This information is kept confidential by Healing Elements.
Each client will be asked to sign an informed consent, acknowledging our scope of practice. Within this consent, it asserts also that our practice is professional in nature. No inappropriate behavior or conversation will be tolerated but will be taken as solicitation for sexual services and will result in the termination of the session with collection of the full fee for service. The client will be banned from returning. In addition, the client may be reported to local authorities for further investigation.
Professional Boundaries:
Clients should always feel comfortable when receiving massage at Healing Elements. The therapist is happy to adjust pressure, temperature, music volume, and duration of work as requested. Any requests to omit certain areas or techniques will be respected. If the client is uncomfortable, the client is free to stop the session at any time and will be responsible for payment of time lapsed. Clients will always be draped, with only the part of the body receiving work exposed. Breasts and groin areas are never exposed.
Draping is not only for the comfort and modesty of the client, but also for the comfort of the therapist and to adhere to professional guidelines. Clients are expected to undress for massage, to allow work on the full length of the muscles. It is not necessary to remove ALL clothing. For full body massage, it is recommended to remove all clothing except underwear. Healing Elements has THREE modesty levels for massage. Clients new to massage may wish to begin at Modesty Level 1 and progress gradually to Modesty Level 3.
In Modesty Level 1 treatments, clients can wear loose comfortable clothing and expose feet or less. Treatments that fall into the Modesty Level 1 category are Shiatsu, chair massage, aromatherapy, paraffin hand treatments, exfoliating foot treatments, and contouring facial massage.
During Modesty Level 2 treatments, clients will be asked to remove shirts and wear comfortable pants/shorts. Back, arms, and decollete will be exposed. Bra should be able to be unfastened during back massage or removed. Chest is not exposed. Treatments in Modesty Level 2 category are relaxation massage (upper body only or to include legs to mid-thigh), deep tissue massage (upper body only or to include legs to mid-thigh), hot stone back massage, and kinesiotaping (upper body sites only).
During Modesty Level 3 treatments, clients are expected to remove all clothing up to or including underwear. Treatments in Modesty Level 3 include relaxation massage (full body), deep tissue massage (full body), hot stone massage, prenatal massage, East-West massage, and kinesiotaping (lower body sites). Underwear need only be removed for deep gluteal work on the skin and is typically performed on runners or other athletes. It is recommended that for any legwork, underwear does not have "legs" to allow massage on the full length of the muscle. Gluts can also be massaged through the sheet and undergarments.
Conversation between the client and the therapist is confidential. The client will dictate the amount of conversation by his/her own initiation of conversation. The client may feel more relaxed if talking is kept to a minimum. Conversely, some clients are more comfortable making small talk. Political and religious subjects are discouraged during the massage, as are any unpleasant topics that induce stress.
Generally, Healing Elements does not massage children under the age of 18. At the therapist’s discretion, an adolescent, who is athletic, may receive massage with parental consent. Likewise, children of clients may receive massage with a parent present in the room during the service.
